Sir John Eh McDonald will remain the Prime Minister of Defence for another 2 years! Johnny Mac re-signed with the Jays in an excellent bit of fan service that pretty much guarentees that Marco Scutaro is gonna peace out for some draft picks.
With the team looking like it's gonna suck hard for this season and facing the loss of the club's second most popular player with the inevitable Halladay trade, throwing a cheap contract to Johnny Mac to keep some of the fanbase satisfied makes perfect sense. Sure it's not something that's gonna make them contenders, sure it's not gonna help the amenic offence but I'd pay to see Johnny Mac take the field everyday just for my entertainment.
Since we're talking Johnny Mac the contract is cheap enough for it not to be enough to stop the club from going out and signing another shortstop to steal the starting job away from our hero (for the 3rd time), but at the same time if the team's gonna tank in 2010 regardless, why the hell would they bother? As happy as I am with not having to deal with losing both Johnny Mac and Doc in the same offseason (and come up with a new name for the blog with Dan) this seals the fact that the Jays don't want to keep the spirit of mediocrity alive in 2010; they want to fucking suck, but try and satisfy the fans at the same time.
Edit: The fuck!? I wait a day and a half to chime in on Johnny Mac because I'm bogged down with term papers and Assassin's Creed and by the time I do they've gone out and signed Alex Gonzalez in a deal that makes no fucking sense. Medicore bat, medicore fielder (former league leader in errors...), fuck this deal reaks of Royce Clayton. C'mon AA.
