DrunkJaysFans is so excited for Ricky Romero to pitch today against the Cincinnati Reds.
As news broke of Matt Clement's dismissal, Jays fans around the universe wondered what next because it seemed as if Scott Richmond had done everything he could to secure a spot in the rotation, and with Casey Janssen obviously not going to start the season north of the border, the final rotation spot is now between Brad Mills, who has been mediocre as of late, and Ricky Romero, who under the tutlege of Brad Arnsberg has become a coach's favourite star prodigy.
Romero will be given an opportunity to duel Brad Mills for the job, and it means everything to the southpaw, I would imagine. It is Ricky Romero's dream to pitch a major league game.
I remember that Summer of '97 when I had total command of the strike zone by August, where I could throw a blazing 30 MPH fastball at the age of nine, no fastball would get awry from DAN THE MAN! And in our backyard games the statistics were generally unreal, with people hitting like 162 homeruns in one season over a fucking tree, and as for me? I've always kind of sucked at baseball unfortunately, and I had a club-low 42 homeruns for regular starters. But I had a glove, and the ball usually managed to find a way into it!
I guess I'm a dreamer, but I want to see Romero catapult off the mound at least once this season in absolute infamy and glory after he's set down a team over nine solid innings of work! And in the process the Jays will have won the series, or have won their ninth straight game!
See those are the days we relish, like that winning streak last season, how excited I was, being back at university, able to drink many beers again, and at the same time, pound 'em back, pound 'em back, and watch some Blue Jays baseball where every game was a win.
Maybe Ricky Romero can do that for me, and his road to the top will have to start against the Cincinnati Reds today...
The Jays are 10-11 in Grapefruit League Action.
